| Kobo eBook Reader Touch Edition, improve the ability. |
Kobo eBook Reader Touch Edition measuring 10 mm thickness and comes with new & improved free Kobo Desktop Software, and sporting a 6-inch “Real Touch” E Ink touchscreen display with 16 shades of grey, featuring Neonode’s new zForce™ infrared touch technology to make you feel reading a real book. You can swipe to turn pages, highlight a phrase, zoom into an image or increase the font size. This device is powered by new Freescale i.MX508 processor for ultra fast page turning and low power consumption.
There's no 3G built into the Kobo eBook Reader Touch Edition, just Wi-Fi b/g/n. Connecting to Wi-Fi was easy and fast via the device's on-screen keyboard.
The rest of the Kobo eBook Reader Touch Edition's design is quite nice. It's rectangular, either black or white on the bezel and either black, white, pink, blue, and gray on the back, with rounded edges. On the front, above the screen is a Kobo logo and below it is a metallic horizontal bar that acts like the iPad's single button, taking you to your home screen from wherever you are. There's a power switch on top, a micro-USB port on the bottom, and a micro-SD slot on the bottom of the left side (you can add up to 32GB of extra storage, in addition to the 2GB of internal memory). The rubbery, quilted plastic back both looks good and makes the Kobo easier to hold.
One of the first things that get noted is that you can buy an e-book from any online store and access it on your Kobo eBook Reader. The Amazon Kindle is really the most popular e-reader, but some don’t like being restricted to buying e-books from the Amazon Marketplace. With the Kobo eBook Reader, you can also check out books from your local library through the Adobe Digital Editions DRM management software.
With the instability of Borders recently, customers might be concerned, but Borders only has a small stake in Kobo and the store closings are not likely going to affect the e-reader. To set customers at ease, Kobo has released a statement saying, “As one of the early investors in Kobo, Borders has a minority stake in our company and serves as part of our distribution in the U.S. along with Walmart, Best Buy, Sears and other retailers.
Kobo continues to grow in the U.S. and around the world and we’re very pleased with progress of the launch of the new Kobo eBook Reader Touch Edition and European office with Kobo Germany.
