New Sony eBook Reader

New Sony eBook Reader
To Fight The Kindle

Sony PRS-500 has entered the U.S. market since 2006
New Sony eBook Reader will be launched in the U.S. market in August 2011 to strengthen its position in competing with the Amazon Kindle. Sony did not release a new product, but rather revise hardware and software of the eBook Reader that already exists.

In the eBook Reader market, Sony is the first company to market the eBook Reader to the American market.
The Sony PRS-500 (PRS standing for Portable Reader System) was made available in the United States in September 2006. On 1 November 2006, Readers went on display and for sale at Borders bookstores throughout the US.

Borders had an exclusive contract for the Reader until the end of 2006. From April 2007, Sony Reader has been sold in the US by multiple merchants, including Fry's, Costco, Borders and Best Buy. The eBook Store from Sony is only available to U.S. or Canadian residents or to customers who purchased a U.S.-model reader with bundled eBook Store credit.

But then Amazon launched the first generation Kindle, only released to the United States on November 19, 2007. Kindle popularity surged and beat Sony, having previously been known as the Amazon online book seller in America. Kindle is present to facilitate reading e-books as reading ordinary books. Additionally, Kindle users get hundreds of free books that can be downloaded from Amazon.

Kindle is known as a device that changes the behavior and habits of reading in America. Although the same device first Sony has manufactured and marketed.

Currently marketed Sony eBook Reader and a strong competitor for the Kindle and Nook is Sony PRS-650 Touch Edition and Sony PRS-950 Daily Edition. Can be ascertained after August 2011, both models were sold with the quality and capabilities than ever. It is estimated that the price will not change.

Sony optimistic, eBook Reader can increase sales in the U.S. market. It is based on the results of research conducted by the Pew Research Center, that the number of Americans who have electronic devices like the Kindle, has doubled in the last six months until last May. They are college graduates and adults, who chose to have the device rather than a tablet computer.

Twelve percent of those surveyed, had an e-reader in May 2011, up 6 percent compared to November 2010, while 8 percent have tablets in May 2011, up 5 percent over the previous six months.

New Sony eBook Reader sold at a price range between USD180 to USD300. New Sony eBook Reader is expected to compete with current market leader for the category eBook Reader, the Amazon Kindle. In addition, the Sony Reader will also compete with Barnes & Noble eReader output, namely Nook. For now, all devices are priced at USD139.

The images to the left, above, are of Kindle and Google versions of a book I ran across last week, when I was surprised at the price difference.
Google has this bio by Michael Munn for $14.72, while the Kindle price is $0.99
